Politics
BackPolitics is everywhere! They provide the structure for the world we live in today and influences every choice we make. The study of politics is endlessly fascinating and enables students to develop a greater understanding of the world around us, giving opportunities to develop knowledge, a high level academic skill base and the ability to create high level analytical and evaluative commentaries on a wide range of theoretical positions.
Students will study three modules over two years: Politics of the UK and the US and Political Ideas. They will determine the democratic value of the systems employed by the UK and US and will explore the relationship between governing bodies and citizens. The opportunity to compare and contrast two of the most compelling political systems in the world serves to enable the development of deep understanding of both domestic and international politics and to acquire a range of high level skills demonstrated both in discussion and in essay format.
In their second year, students go on to study Political Ideologies including Conservatism, Liberalism, Socialism, Anarchism and Feminism all of which are predicated on a different set of values with each believing they hold the answers needed to make the world a better place to live in. This, in conjunction with the study of political systems, leads to students developing a strong set of analytical and evaluative skills, preparing them for their future careers.
“Government & Politics is a course which enables you to understand the mechanisms and ideologies which drive the day-to-day goings-on in the British political sphere. It is fascinating, but above all, relevant.”
