Law
BackA Level Law is a fascinating subject which covers many aspects of life. It provides an excellent introduction for those who are thinking about a legal career but it is also an option for all students as it is a well-respected subject that links well with many other subjects.
There are a range of topics within the course with the aim of developing an understanding of the law and how it works. It starts by looking at what the law is, who makes it and where it comes from. Then we will cover a range of other areas including the legal system, law making, criminal law, tort law and human rights.
Students will be asked to consider issues such as the relationship between law and justice, whether there is access to law for all and how law is changing and developing. There will be a range of cases to study and discuss in relation to the different areas of law. Students will then be able to use their knowledge of the law and how it is applied to given scenarios where they will need to consider the possible choices and outcomes.
Next Steps
Many students who study A Level Law do go on to study law at university and then follow a legal profession such as a solicitor or barrister. Other popular careers for law students are police, business and accounting. Students also go to university to study a range of other subjects, particularly business and humanities.
There are a range of alternatives to a degree such as legal apprenticeships. The A Level course will provide students with the skills necessary to follow any of these paths.
