Music Technology
BackMusic Technology is an exciting and engaging practical subject where students are immersed into the world of professional music production. By the end of the course, students become experts in industry standard software and gain invaluable aural and analytical skills.
Music Technology students study four components over two years. There are two coursework components - recording and composition using technology. Students will learn about different types of microphones and how to correctly position them to achieve the best quality recordings. The course covers extensive software skills, enabling students to edit, mix and apply effects to audio. The composition component allows students to choose from three different briefs exploring film music, song writing and avant-garde electronic music composition. The exam components will cover analytical skills, testing students on their knowledge and ability to identify different production techniques and use of technology. Students will study the history and development of music technology and popular music genres from the early 1900s to present day.
