Graphic Communication (Art)

Back

Graphic Communication is much more than simply creating an image. It is a form of visual communication that provides information and persuades the viewer to consider new ideas or perspectives. Many of us aren’t aware of the different types of Graphic Design that exist. Although, the skills you will learn in your Graphic Design A-Level will help with any of these types of Graphic Design, it’s good to get a grasp of the different routes that will be available in the future. And why not use these to help pick the theme for your next project.

1. Product Design Product designers research, design and develop new products. The products they design can include everything from, toys to technology. They will create illustrations and prototypes of their designs before they’re sent into production. This type of Graphic Design includes product packaging, product illustrations and prototypes.

2. Branding Design Branding design focuses on the visual indentity of a company or product. Graphic designers in this speciality put all their skills into developing a visual brand that will connect the audience and the chosen company. Branding design includes, packaging design, logos, website branding, business cards, company brochures and signage. Anything that can be used to advertise the company.

3. Website Design Website designers do exactly what it says... design websites! These designers create online spaces for desktops and mobiles (including apps). These online spaces should be visually appealing and easy to navigate, this type of design is all about the consumer, so an understanding of user experience is essential.

4. Graphic Illustration Design Graphic Design and Illustration are each very different. Designers create compositions to communicate and solve problems, illustrators create original artwork. However, a graphic illustrator creates digital illustrations that can be used for publications, decoration and storey boards. If you love drawing but are so interested in the world of design, this one is for you. Unlike Children’s book illustration, graphic illustration is bold and is often used to accompany text in magazine, posters and more.

5. Animation Design Animation designs are graphics that are in motion. This can include animation, audio, typography, imagery, video and other effects that are used in online media, television and film.
