Abbeygate Sixth Form College, in Bury St Edmunds, is getting ready to hit the dance floor for a three-night run of The Wedding Singer musical.

The sixth form is bringing students from across the Bury campus together for their take on a show that has been inspired by the 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

The show includes a main cast of nine who are supported by an ensemble of 14, with musicians from the sixth form and King Edward VI School.

Conservatoire East, the acting arm of West Suffolk College, will be helping out on the tech side of the production.

Director Sophie Allen, a drama teacher at Abbeygate, said: “Rehearsals have been going very well, the students are working really hard, the acting is dynamic, the dances are looking good and it’s a really funny show.

“I think audiences will have a great time if they come and watch it.”

In terms of why people should come and see The Wedding Singer, she added: “It’s full of 80s’ nostalgia with lots of catchy songs that will be stuck in people’s heads for many weeks – it’s going to be a great night out.”

Student Frankie Freeman, 17, from Bury St Edmunds, who will be playing the character Holly, said: “People should come and see it as it’s a good chance to see what Abbeygate students can do; it’s hilarious, energetic and uplifting.”

Frankie performed two sets at Latitude last year after winning a songwriting competition run by The John Peel Centre.

General entry is £12.
