College rewards long serving staff members by hosting a special dinner in their honour

Staff who have collectively worked for the Eastern Education Group for over 150 years were recognised at a special dinner held in their honour at Edmunds Restaurant in Bury St Edmunds.

A total of 14 guests were in attendance including Group Sixth Form Principal, Colin Shaw who has been with the organisation for over 20 years. And Dr Nikos Savvas - who celebrated ten years as CEO of the Eastern Education Group last year - was also on hand to congratulate staff.

Dr Savvas said: “Every day I am amazed and proud of the work that you do. Well done and a massive thanks to you all.”

4Julie Wood was recognised for 20 years service for the Eastern Education Group at Edmunds restaurant

One of the attendees was Julie Wood. Julie is an Inclusive Learning Co-ordinator and has worked for West Suffolk College for over two decades. The Great Cornard resident said: “The College is now huge and has changed for the better. Looking back, my favourite moments were when we used to do our annual pantomimes that involved students and staff from inclusive learning – they were good fun. In terms of why I love working here, I’d say I am motivated everyday to support inclusive learning students and make sure they have the same opportunities as everyone else.”

Liz Creasy is Head of Commercial Training and Strategic Growth and Partnership Support. After 21 years working for the group, Liz said: “I have worked in a number of roles and I love working for the College and the group. Everything has grown hugely since I first started. Significant investments have transformed our organisation, leading to substantial growth and improved support for both the community and the country. We are now better equipped to serve and contribute positively to the needs of our stakeholders.

“The highlight for me is the people and the environment – everyone is so supportive and works together so well. The thing I love most about the job is being able to provide opportunities to employers and the community.”

Stuart Henty is the HR, Wellbeing and Development Manager for the Eastern Education Group and he helped organise the event. Stuart said: “The staff really enjoyed the delicious dinner and the event.

“They all received a small financial bonus to say thanks for their loyalty. It’s important to acknowledge the good work and service that people give to us and recognise their efforts in creating an outstanding learning and working environment for the communities that we so proudly serve.”
