Eligibility for applying

Student places at Abbeygate are funded  by the EFA and there are certain criteria students need to meet in order to be offered a place at Abbeygate.

  • At least 6 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 , including GCSE English Language, and meeting the entry criteria of individual subjects (Level 2 vocational qualifications at Merit or Distinction will be treated as equivalent to one GCSE)
  • Students must be under 19 years of age on 31st August on the year of their application
  • Students must not have already studied a Level 3 course elsewhere when applying for a Level 3 course with Abbeygate
  • Students from overseas (outside the EU and EEA) whose main reason for residence in England or the EEA has been attendance at a fee-paying school or non-maintained school are not usually eligible for funding. Periods spent in the UK as overseas fee-paying students in either public or private education do not count towards the three year period of legal residency in the UK that is usually required from non EEA students to be eligible for EFA funding. If this guidance applies to you, you will be required to pay £4000 per academic year to cover the cost of your education.

Further details of the Education Funding Agency guidance can be found here.
