Additional Learning Support
Abbeygate Sixth Form College welcomes students with additional needs and is committed to providing a supportive learning programme for all. We ask for students with learning difficulties/disabilities to make us aware of your needs so we can work together to provide full and appropriate support.
Our aim is for you to develop your skills and gain independence to prepare for your goal of university, employment or further study.
We offer support for a wide range of needs including:
- Specific Learning Difficulties – we can arrange for you to be assessed for exam access arrangements if we consider you would be eligible for concessions such as extra time, reading and/or writing support.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Sensory Impairment
- Physical Disabilities and Medical Conditions
Your teachers and Personal Progress Tutor (PPT) will be advised of your needs to ensure wraparound support is offered to you.
The support we offer
- Transition arrangements – to make the move from school to college easier.
- Exam access arrangements – if you have been given exam concessions at high school, please let us know as soon as possible to allow us to make the best preparation for you.
- Assistive technology
- 1:1 support sessions
- Interview support
Education, Health & Care Plan holders
If you hold an Education, Health & Care plan (EHCP), please let us know; we will then discuss with you, your parent/carer and school the best possible support you need when you study at Abbeygate Sixth Form College.
- We can arrange for you to visit the college to familiarise yourself with the building and teaching/pastoral staff to help the transition from high school to college be easier.
- We can attend your Year 11 Annual Reviews to give us an insight into how you are presently supported in your current school to ensure continue this success when you progress to Abbeygate.
- Once at Abbeygate, we will meet regularly on a 1:1 basis to meet your needs and monitor your progress in a relaxed and friendly environment. We work with you, as an individual, to create a support document for relevant teaching staff to fully support you in the classroom.
